View Full Version : Ride Comparison: 08 CBR600RR vs 07 Daytona 675

Well, I got to put a hundred miles or so on a 600RR today, on these wiggles the locals refer to as curves. There are a few DECENT turns to hit, and hit them I did.
I've long been pondering swapping back over to a Honda from my lemon of a Triumph (which I will note has been running just fine since I got the new engine). I love Honda motorcycles and have owned 3 previously, including a 599 and F4i, so my expectations were high for this bike. I soon realized, I hadn't ridden a Honda in 2 years.
Engine:
Good god is this thing neutered down low, the 675 blows this bike away in torque which isn't surprising. I felt like I had to give it half throttle to do anything down low. Once spun up this runs like a sewing machine up to 10,000RPM and comes alive like a freight train for that last few thousand. It had deceptive power, that didn't kick you in the jimmy at all. Overall, I say the 675 wins in the engine department.
Brakes: equal, nothing remarkable to say other than they are a LOT better than what was on my F4i.
Suspension/Handling: I couldn't rail it hard enough around here to get a good feel, my 675 was setup for the track and left there while this bike was at stock settings. They rode very different. The reach to the bars was more relaxed if you were slid up on the uncomfortable seat, but not so comfortable if you scoot back to where your butt is meant to be. The rearsets are further forward than the triumph and my leg muscles could feel it immediately. The bike flicked side to side remarkably fast, as quick as my Triumph does at least. Once cranked over the steering responded faster than I expected and I had to correct till I got used to it.
Overall:
This is a wonderful, smooth, and easy to ride motorcycle. I don't want to say I'm disappointed, but it certainly didn't blow my socks off. I like the bike, but if I had to pick between the two, I'd still pick the Triumph.
What this means:
I also need to ride an R6, and GSX-R600, I do think I will have similar results. Perhaps this brit bike has spoiled me, and perhaps I should keep it.

i really don't like inline 4's, they're just lifeless compared to v's and the triple. no character or personality.
when i finally sell mine, i'll either get a newer version or go back to an italian

People keep recommending the GSX-R 750 to me, but gawd, not a gixxer! :(
The 750 is a magnificent bike, but I just don't care for buying a GSXR anymore. If I could afford it though I would pick up a ZX-14 and use it for touring...

Meh... The Gixxer-750 isn't all THAT great. My buddy has an '07. It feels like a fat whale compared to the 675, though it is MUCH more stable-feeling. I kick his ass up to about ~120MPH, then he starts pulling away, where my sprocket setup limits my top speed. But in reality, we don't GO that fast often, and I prefer the low-end grunt, lickety-split "right now" feeling (some might call this "twitchiness"), and utter thinness of my 675 to 120+MPH/High-RPM pull of the Gixxer. I don't know how there'll be another bike that I'll own that I'll love as much as my 675.
Maybe the NEXT 675? :smug:

I rode my sons 07 GSXR 750 today. Meh..
Moving it around in the garage it felt like a tank...and had to weigh 35 more pounds than my Daytona. Those kinds of bikes are GREAT when riding over 10k rpms...but anything under that i'd take the Volvo.
No thanks,,i'll keep the 675.

I've ridden a 636, but it had some clutch and braking issues. Once they're fixed I'll give it another ride, certainly felt smooth enough!
My 675 leaves tomorrow! :(

You are my hero sir. I'm amazed at the members on BIKE forums that don't have a bike...never had a bike....don't like bikes...and will never buy a bike.

Oh don't get me started, I had to go 4 months without for no fault of my own. I almost cracked and bought a new bike somewhere in the middle there. My situation is purely the best financial move, and I expect to come out of this with another bike in about 4 months time, and by this time next year have two, paid off motorcycles.
triple grrr

My bike is paid off, only cost is the $45 a month for insurance, which seems to be a waste the last 2 months. Schedule, nobody to ride with, and weather have been the cause. The only reason I have kept it is because it is paid for. My wife won't let me sell it to buy a Tiger.... a white ABS model. I will call it my Siberian Tiger, cause it will have heated grips and will be decent enough in all dry weather, no matter the cold.

My bike is still a work in progess. I still have to move the overflow bottle...and i've yet to find mirrors that look ok and work at the same time. Then i need the HID conversion from the sealed beams that burn yellow and look like a 1952 Harley. And after that comes the powder coated rims.... Oh ...too many things to do and the wife lost her job a few weeks ago...so now i can't spend money for a while.
At least it runs terrific. 111.78 hp on the dyno.
Yeah i wish we could have met too. When are ya coming back this way?

Thanks. There are folks that are worse off than we are...so i'm thankful every day i wake up and have a roof over my head and something to eat. I have been through worse than this so we'll be just fine. I feel bad for all these folks that were living large and are now losing their homes and having to work at McDonalds just to eat. Bad times for everyone these days.
