Opinions?
I think it looks pretty sweet. Would be interesting to see how it performs.

Flippin sweet looking bike -- definitely more "Japanese" looking than their other offerings, but still a bit uniquely BMW, IMO.
I can't say i've ever ridden a BMW,
Go do the demos at Bike Week. Chris has ridden the K1200R a couple of times and LOOOOOOOOVED it (he soooo wants one), and I've ridden the F800ST (which was a blast as well). And their ride leaders are a lot of fun - they definitely let you open the bikes up a lot more than some of the other manufacturers do.

Let Chris know. I can't take any time off during that week, but I know he's planning on heading down by himself one of the weekdays, specifically to get in some demos.

They've been talking about this bike for months over here. The first spy shots were of a fully CF bike. It was claimed that would be the case when it was released... Guess not
IMHO it's too expensive. Untested, unproved, undesirable BMW for similar price of a duke... It'll have to be pretty impressive. At least it's not belt driven

If it is anything like the other BMWs. it is going to be absurd. Absoultly love the delivery and handleing of the Beemers.

I was too lazy to read about it, but if it has linked brakes with abs, Telelever BS-uspension, "by-wire" everything, an ugly rear end, and/or weighs a ton, no thank you... That and I bet it costs a crapload... LOL! :nana:

My local BMW guy says it will only be about $1500 more than a typical 1000 sport bike, which may go a long way with BMW reputation.

that makes it a bit better. The article reckons they will cost just shy of $19.5K.
I'd rather buy a gixxer thou and stick a BMW sign on the tank  plus change

Shit, at THAT price -- you could buy a Gixxer 1K PLUS a gently used 675 for track duty... :raspberry:

why is it so hard to wrap your brain around a high prie for a eurpean bike? people pay this money for Dukesand Pillers all the time, and lets face it, how many beemers you ever hear about breakin down?
This thing will be bad ass. and To top it off, It is just the first step in BMW's sports motorcycle engineering.

Yes, and I am NOT one of those people... 675 = European bike, has never broken down, and it cost LESS than some of the other middleweights... See? WHY pay more??? Oh, that's right -- the name... :rolleyes2:
Also, my buddy's dad has had a few Beemers over the last few years, and they have ALL had problems -- mostly relating to electrical issues. Sorry, but BMW is NOT all that and a bad of douche-chips...
Then again, their GS's are pretty reliable.

You're missing my point. I am European. Yeah a lot of european bikes are more expensive, but that doesn't mean they're better. I'm not saying bmw don't make good bikes, but pricing it at the same as a 1198S is a bold move. The vast majority of duke owners, IMHO, will never come close to riding the bike at it's true potential. You buy the bike for it's name, the heritage, the marque. Bmw have none of these so far. So to price it at the most expensive without having even won a race is not sensible IMHO. Why not price it against a rsv, or dominate first. Triumph got it right with the 675, but if they had priced the TT and daytona 600/650 similar to the 748/749 they would have been an international joke.

You know when even prominent German politicians would rather have a Honda that says it all.

Ever seen Long Way Down?
And hang around Advrider.com and you hear a lot of BMW riders bitching about their bikes breaking down.

Most the beemer dorks around here dont seem to have a problem.
i think forums give a skewed vision of things, cause thats where people go to bitch lol

There's something to that. When a manufacturer gains a reputation for building a quality product like BMW, it will attract people that want something reliable, and if there is a problem they jump up and scream :censored: to all that will listen. There are always a pile of people on these forums that are waiting to pounce on somebody with bad luck with a self righteous "That's what you get for buying a . . . too bad you weren't smart like me and bought a . . ."
That's the problem with anonymity and the intrenet: it leads to sociopathic behaviour; and these forums are often a magnet for people out to inflict grief for their own pleasure.
Most owners would agree that BMW largely deserve their reputation but even BMW themselves would not say their stuff doesn't break.
My .02¢.
