So I guess one of the people involved in that thread crashed.
Not glad it happened but it doesn't surprise me the least.

He isn't a squid if he had full gear on. Shit happens.
I went down on my SV650S four years ago when my front brake handle got stuck and wouldn't engage in a set of twisties for some reason, so I had much more speed than I wanted and had to lean over hard -- which was not quite enough as my rear wheel clipped the loose rocks/gravel on the very edge of the road, and washed out on me = lowside. I had all my gear on as well. Did that make me a squid?
Anyways, yeah -- maybe not "squid" so much as "inexperienced". :icon_wink:

You squid? Hahaha, no don't think that bro.
I just read how he crashed and remember him expressing interest in a stretched swing arm. And regardless, gear can't cover up any squidness.

Yeah right... I know people that ride in full leathers but act like total squids. Lane splitting @ 90+ mph, wheelies in traffic and other squidlike activities...
Gear does not automatically exempt you from squid-dom.

If you have gear on you are a sqid if you don't you're a squid.

Yes it does. A squid is a guy without gear doing all that shit. Someone WITH all the gear doing that stuff is just a dumbass, LOL! Mr. Sandals-with-no-shirt doing wheelies between cars at 90mph on a Hayabusa is a squid. Mr. All-gear-and-made-a-n00b-mistake is not, in my book. Now, if he had no gear, or even just a helmet on (or even worse -- the helmet on a helmet lock on the side), THEN I'd call him a squid. He had enough common sense to wear gear when he was going to be riding like he was (attacking twisties).
I chalked his accident down to inexperience. It didn't sound to me like he was doing anything hugely squidly, he just made a bad judgment call due to lack of experience. If he had been riding long enough, he'd know that the chance for traffic to be there at that time on that road would make him adjust how he rides it BEFORE seeing a car. Now that he's crashed there, he most likely has learned that and will do just that.
Am I wrong?
Anyways, what I think REALLY TRULY happened to him is: he was riding with his buddies who were better/more experienced riders than him, and he was in the back of the pack where most n00bs feel the most comfortable, trying to keep up instead of going at his own pace and catching up later (one of the biggest n00b mistakes out there that most of us have been guilty of when learning to ride). He started in on the turn too hot for his ability, swinging out too wide, sees the car coming in the other lane, freaks in his n00bness, overcompensates, probably hitting the front brake a bit which makes him go even wider, fixing on the car too much and not realizing his rear wheel is clipping the outside curb and it's gravel, thus washing out and low-siding.

But you're missing the entire demographic of posers that wear branded leather and think they are in a MotoGP race that starts at the local Timmys. (Canadian Donut shop). They are sqids that are not underdressed but dangerous nonetheless.

I don't miss it.
I don't miss the assumptions that every rider on that board is a male.
And that idiot stating, "You were all squids once too" or whatever he wrote.
I was NEVER a squid. EVER.
And the 12:00 wheelie on the SV doesn't count because it was a complete accident and I'm suprised I didn't dump it.
Don't you guys turn into a bunch of idiots and assume that the only members of a bike forum are male.
I love you guys just the way you are.
Don't change.

Hmmm... This is true. I guess we'd need to dig deeper as to WHAT gear he has.
Reminds me of when my buddy and I rode around on Friday last week, and wound up at the mall where a lot of bikes are. I spotted some kid who was maybe 20-years-old with full 1-piece Triumph leathers talking with other guys, and was excited since I never see anyone with a Triumph around here. I asked him what he had, and he said a Daytona 675!
Me: "Sweet! What color?"
Kid: "Black."
Me: "Is it an SE or a new one?"
Kid: "It's a 2009"
Me: "Nice! They tweaked it for '09. I'd love to try one of them to see the difference."
Kid: (matter-of-factly and somewhat egotistically) "Yeah, it's brand new. The 2009's are a completely different bike. They changed everything." -- I almost laughed in his face...
He asked what I had, and I said "I also have a 675. A Graphite."
Guy: "Oh, so you have a 2007?"
Me: "No, it's actually one of the early 2006's."
Guy: "Huh, I didn't know they made them in 2006..."
Me: ":notamused: OOOOOkaaaaaay... Nice meeting you......." (I turn and leave)
:pout:
THAT was a squid/poser...

WHAT gear he wears also has no bearing on it...
Squid-ness is a mentality... the same way a redneck with a $2000 Armani suit will still be a redneck.
Posers in my book are about as good a squids. A lot of them may know a lot about riding via magazines and bike meets, but most of these posers have very low seat time as they only ride when there is a bike meet or when the weather is just perfect. Not saying that sunny day riders are all posers (don't want to start another debate :P), but all posers are generally sunny day riders.
Squids by my definition would be any motorcyclist who rides without regard to their own safety and the safety of others.
